Mother's Day

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I've been brainstorming gift ideas. As usual, I head to my fabric stash first to dream up something I can make. I have several ideas I'm excited to share when I get back home next week (we are visiting family in Bend). Here's some other great gift ideas to get you inspired.

For directions on making one yourself, check out the link below the image.

Of course most moms love flowers and cards. My mom's favorites are lilacs, roses, and all sorts of hanging potted flowers. So I was thinking, instead of just buying a flower, why not plant it with the kids for grandma? We could even make a day out of it working together in her yard.

And that opens up all sorts of gift ideas. The grandkids can paint a birdhouse for the back yard. An old paned window would look great hanging on the garage above her rose bed. Or they can press their hands into a stepping stone for her garden. We could find a special vase for her cut flowers. So many ideas...

Wedding and Birthdays

One of my favorite things to do is make presents for people I know. What do they need/ want? What colors do they like? What's their style?  Sometimes gift-giving is a perfect opportunity to practice new skills, like serging. I hope the recipients of the following gifts are happy.

Woo Hoo!

Although I was doubtful, I was able to successfully thread and operate a serger. Oh, the possibilities are endless.  The Baby Lock I used is on loan, so all I have to do is bust open the penny jar and pray the coins have multiplied in my sleep. It could happen.

Artist of the Month

Most of my Etsy orders are mailed from a local, privately owned post office. Last month I sent several bibs, and as we were putting them in the package, the owner asked if I made them myself. "Yes," I replied.
"You should be artist of the month."
I laughed. "Thanks," I said.
"I am serious," the owner told me. "We can feature you this April. We set up a table featuring local artists' work. Let me know if you are interested."

I sure am. Thanks for the honor. Here are a couple of things currently on display in our local post office shop.

Happy Easter everyone!
